Before roaming, notice a hill, shoreline or other landmark near spawn. Coordinates can help when available, but controls and default visibility differ between Java and Bedrock editions.
The goal is not to collect everything. Build one safe loop: remember where you began, gather nearby basics, get under cover before dark, and leave exploration for daylight.

Convert logs into planks, use four planks for a crafting table, then make sticks and a wooden pickaxe. Mine nearby stone and replace the wooden pickaxe with stone tools instead of overbuilding the starter set.
Collect accessible food and eight cobblestone for a furnace. Choose a small shelter near your starting resources. A secure, well-lit room is more useful tonight than a large unfinished house.
