NVIDIA announced on September 1 that DLSS 5 will become available in NBA 2K27 at 9 p.m. Pacific on September 3. The official launch scope covers GeForce RTX 50-series desktop and laptop GPUs plus GeForce NOW Ultimate sessions running on NVIDIA-operated RTX 5080-class systems. NVIDIA says PC players will need the Game Ready Driver scheduled for the same time, then can enable DLSS Neural Rendering in the game's Video Settings and toggle it during gameplay or replays with F9.

This is not simply another frame-generation switch. NVIDIA describes 3D-Guided Neural Rendering as a final stage in the graphics pipeline that uses the engine-rendered frame, color, motion vectors, surface data, and developer-controlled masks to alter lighting and material response while preserving the underlying geometry. The feature is optional and can run alongside Super Resolution, Multi Frame Generation, Ray Reconstruction, rasterization, ray tracing, or path tracing.

Vendor claims, not independent results

NVIDIA reports up to 370 frames per second at 4K and up to 590 frames per second at 1440p on a GeForce RTX 5090 with the Ultra preset, ray tracing, and the broader DLSS feature stack enabled. Those are NVIDIA's figures, not Tech Life Hybrid measurements. The announcement does not provide enough visible detail to reproduce the result as a complete independent benchmark: the full CPU, memory, power state, driver build, exact Super Resolution mode, Multi Frame Generation multiplier, capture method, run duration, sample count, latency, and frametime data are not all stated alongside the headline numbers.

Independent previews from GamesRadar and PCWorld describe seeing the feature in controlled demonstrations, while Tom's Hardware separately confirms the announced September 3 scope. That corroborates the launch event; it does not turn NVIDIA's frame-rate or image-quality claims into a neutral lab result.

What remains unknown

Real play still needs to establish the neural-rendering cost when isolated from generated frames, input-latency behavior, frame pacing, temporal stability in motion, artifact rates across camera cuts and crowds, the effect of each developer intensity setting, and how the experience scales from the RTX 5050 through the RTX 5090. NVIDIA's announcement does not add official RTX 40-series support. Reports about leaked or modified DLLs running on other hardware are not an approved installation path and should not be treated as proof of supported compatibility.

The important shift is that image quality is becoming a developer-directed neural output, not only a reconstructed or interpolated version of a conventional frame. That makes a single FPS number less informative. A useful review must compare the same scene and camera path with neural rendering off and on, record native-rendered and displayed frame rates separately, measure latency and frametimes, preserve driver and game-build versions, and inspect motion—not just still screenshots—for identity drift, shimmering, lighting changes, and art-direction tradeoffs.

What PC players should do

Wait for the official September 3 driver and in-game option rather than downloading a leaked DLL or third-party injector. Before enabling the feature, record the game build, driver version, GPU, CPU, memory, resolution, preset, ray-tracing mode, Super Resolution mode, and Frame Generation setting. Then compare a repeatable replay or camera path, and judge both responsiveness and image stability.
